During the pandemic, many people avoid going to puppy grooming services for health reasons and protocols. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't give your pet a grooming session they deserve. The question now is, how are you going to do it? If you are a newbie puppy owner, this one is for you. We'll share with you the essentials for puppy grooming.

6 Steps To Puppy Grooming

  • 1. Clean the Eyes Properly

When cleaning your puppy's eyes, make sure to use a soft damp cloth and wipe it around the eye area. If you must know, dirt can build up here, and it could sometimes lead to infection. While cleaning, you should check for redness and other signs of infection. In addition, it should remain moist. If necessary, use eye drops.

  • 2. Don't Forget the Nose

It's quite normal for your puppy's nose to feel a bit dry. But to ensure that it is moist, always give them water. In addition to that, check if the environment is humid enough. There are also available balms made for puppies, and you can take advantage of that.

  • 3. Check Out for Ear Wax

Take note that dirt and wax could build up in your dog's ears too. Using cloth, you should be able to clean it, wipe its folds and flaps. If you are more comfortable using cotton balls, then you can do so. You should clean your puppy's ear at least once a month.

  • 4. Brush Their Teeth

If you must know, your puppy can develop bad breath if you do not clean their teeth. Thus, this is also essential. You must brush their teeth at least twice a week. Never use a human's toothbrush as it could be detrimental to their health. There are special toothpaste brands for your puppy and a quick search online should give you a full list. You can also give them chew toys. This could also help you for puppy grooming.

  • 5. Take Care of Their Coat

If you know how to trim your puppy's coat, then we say go for it. You would need hair clippers and scissors. When you are about to trim, start from the neck and then slowly move down to the tail. You must place your pet on an elevated table so you can easily cut their coat. Trim it in the direction of their hair. You have to be careful when working on their sensitive areas such as the underarm and underbelly.Apart from trimming, you should also brush the coat. This is not just to look awesome, but it's beneficial for their health.Regular brushing can remove dead hair, dirt, and could reduce tangles. For puppies with long hair, we recommend using a metal brush comb. You can do this two times per week.

  • 6. Brush Their Teeth

When your puppy's nails are overgrown, this could make walking more difficult. It's best that you start trimming the nails at a young age so that your pet will be more comfortable with it. Make sure not to overcut as it can cause bleeding and it might take weeks to heal.Hopefully, these puppy grooming tips could help you maintain your pet's optimal health even if you don't use professional services in the meantime.
