British Shorthair
Despite its name, and claims that it originated in Great Britain, the British Shorthair is most likely the first selectively bred cat breed - with its heritage being traced back to ancient Rome. The Romans (who came to Great Britain some 2,000 years ago) were most likely responsible for their wide spread throughout the British Isles when they invaded. The Romans were eventually driven from the islands, but the Romans who left their cats there stayed. The British Shorthair has a rounded face and big round eyes that instantly distinguish this cat from others, giving it an adorable expression. It is a medium-sized, compact, chunky cat with thick, lush fur.

General Appearance: Their face is round and enormous. The bone structure beneath the round face is well positioned on a short thick neck. Medium-sized ears are broad at the base and rounded at the tips. Fitting into the rounded shape of the head, they are set far apart. Large, circular eyes with wide open eyelids

Eye Colour: Usually comes in striking orange eyes
Fur Colour: The most frequent color combinations are black and red, blue and cream, chocolate and crimson, cinnamon and crimson, and lilac and pale cream. Some British Shorthairs will have a tortie-colored coat with a “smoke” appearance from a lighter, usually silver-colored undercoat

Grooming Challenges
It has a very dense coat, so it is fairly easy to maintain their coat
Take note of their shedding periods, which would require you to brush their coat
Grooming Requirements
Requires grooming only once a week
Brushing them regularly can lead to less cat hair in your home
Remember to clear their hairballs to prevent ingestation
Bathing: stick to once every 4 to 6 weeks (bathing them too often can strip away their natural oils and lead to dry fur)
Look for black specks in your cat's fur and bloodstains, both of which are indicators of flea infestation
Clean their ears often, as ear mites can pose a serious health problem to them (The most apparent sign of ear mites in cats is ear scratching)
