Scottish Fold
The short dense coat of the Scottish Fold cat is very simple to maintain and requires no special grooming. Brushing helps remove dead hairs out of the Scottish Fold's ears, which are difficult for the cat to clean on its own. To prevent ear infection, owners must clean any wax or debris build-up from the outer ear to avoid ear infections. The Scottish Fold cat was a mutant variation in farm cats in Scotland that occurred spontaneously. The breed was developed through matings between Scottish Shorthairs and cats from Scotland and England. "Susie", the first Scottish Fold, was discovered by William Ross - a sheep farmer on the McRae farm in 1961 (a town in Perth and Kinross, Scotland). He also began to breed from them and their offspring, thus the Scottish Fold breed was passed down. Soon, the village was teeming with Scottish Folds cats, all named after characters in L. Frank Baum's children's fantasy novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. LaFrance contacted Dr. Solveig Pflueger, chairwoman of The International Cat Association's (TICA) genetics committee, to learn more about the breed. Scottish Fold kittens actually have straight ears from birth. Their ears only begin to flop between the ages of 2 and 4 weeks. Unfortunately, a genetic mutation that causes cartilage in the ears to droop (and is truly adorable!) also affects other cartilage throughout the body.
Scottish Fold Personality
Scottish Folds are typically bright, pleasant, quiet, and easily acclimated to new individuals and circumstances. They will, however, quickly identify their chosen person and become instantly attached to him or her - as they prefer to affiliate with just one individual in the family. They love attention, but it must be on their terms. Despite their dedication, they are not clingy or demanding cats, and instead prefer to be next to you than on your lap.

Grooming Challenges
They are in general well natured and can get easily accustomed to routines
They have quite a dense coat / fur
Long-haired Scottish Fold would require more maintenance and care
Their ears are their main features that may be susceptible to dirt at times
Grooming Requirements
They can be further categorised into short-haired or long-haired breed
Short-haired Scottish Fold only requires weekly brushing
Long-haired Scottish Fold requires maintenance at least thrice a week or some owners would prefer to do it everyday
Nail trimming is a much needed routine to be done - at least twice a month parasite treatment, and an annual veterinary examination
